VSD file format is used by Microsoft Visio software application. This file format is used by the application for creation of drawing files.

The drawings that are generated using Microsoft Visio can be then exported to other drawing formats using different applications. The VSD file format allows the user to use the drawing generated through Microsoft Visio and use it along a number of other files as all the files created by Microsoft Visio do not have any kind of compatibility or merging issue. These files are then collectively used to define a complete drawing. This final vector drawing can then be used for a number of purposes.
